DON'T FORGET!!....On Friday as part of Green Day there is a walking bus...refer to the letter for details of stops :) Can't wait!

In Year 1 this week we will be doing dance in P.E as Fireworks, beginning our poetry unit (working towards writing a firework poem), creating a variety of art work based on fireworks, learning how to use money and beginning to experiment with forces (pushes and pulls).

Another fun-packed week of learning for Year 1 :)

Happy Half Term!!

Well what a fantastic end to our first half term in Year 1. Firstly we did star writing... Imagining and drawing our 'most strange and terrifyingly tricky creatures' then writing a description of them.

The writing is some of the best I have ever seen the children do and I am so very proud of them! Well done guys!

In the afternoon we decorated our horse 'Supersonic' with a collage of our very own faces. We also planted tulip and daffodil bulbs and japanese onions in our allotment. The children really loved getting their hands dirty in the mud. :)

Have a lovely half term all, and looking forward to the next half term's festivities!

The Year 1 Allotment!!!

On Friday Year 1 are going to begin planting in the Year 1 allotment. After asking the children what they would like to grow we decided to get Daffodils, Tulips and some onions to plant ready for spring.

Each child in Year 1 will contribute to planting in the allotment and hopefully it will look fabulous in full bloom next year!

We will also have a bird table and we have got lots of seeds and other bird food to keep our feathered friends well fed through the winter.

The children are all very excited :)

Year  1 is a funny bunch.  Mr Bump was one of the best costumes.  The Dalmation is a fun costume.
Harry Potter's costume was magical.  Robin Hood's costume was amazing.  They all looked brilliant.

Almost at the end of the first half term...

Year 1 have had an exciting start to their first term in Year 1. We have been busy investigating materials, developing our writing, reading and maths skills, learning about homes past and present and experimenting with weaving.

On Friday (07.10.11)Year 1 visited the Weaver Hall museum where we made butter, washed clothes and got ready for bed using items from a long time ago. It was really hard work! We all had lots of fun though :)

Today we made a cardboard loom for weaving and set up our warp threads ready for creating a beautiful weaving next week. So watch this space for images to come.

In literacy we are reading the 'Charlie and Lola' stories, using drama to explore the characters so that we can write super descriptions about them. We all find Lola very funny (and a bit naughty!

Keep checking back to see what else we have been up to...
